PoppyLove and war. Two words that should have little association, but to me the two go hand in hand. Both are a tragedy. They rip you open and spit you out. The war killed my husband, Connor, shattered my will to live, and took my best friend. Brandon may not have physically died in that war, but his soul did. And now we’re left to pick up the wreckage. Expected to move on when all that is left is the ruins of a life we once had.
Brandon
War. It took everything from me, even myself. When you’re only able to exist, death seems like a blessing. Pain…a welcome distraction. I ran from everything associated with my past, and then she found me, fighting, drowning myself in whisky, trying to forget. She reminds me of Connor, of what I’ve lost—what we’ve lost. In the midst of destruction, she’s a salvation I don’t deserve.
I shouldn’t love him.
I shouldn’t love her.
Love is a war we never should have fought.

MARY’S REVIEW
WOW, what an amazingly well written, gut wrenching, yet heartfelt book War Poppy is!! I love Stevie J. Cole and L.P. Lovell books but this is such a departure from their norm that I see why is written as Nicole Lynne. WP made me a complete, babbling, emotional mess when I finished this book. My heart literally shattered into a million pieces.
War Poppy was about three best friends. Brandon, Connor and Poppy had grown up together. Brandon and Connor were best friends…. so, close that he considered him more like a brother. Both Brandon and Connor loved Poppy. Now the thing was that there had always been a connection between Brandon and Poppy. Poppy had always loved Brandon…actually losing her virginity with Brandon. Not only that but rather than face what he had done, Brandon took off after they had slept together without regard to how much he had hurt Poppy… more concerned about hurting his friend Connor. It ends up that Connor marries Poppy. Brandon enlisted in the military with his best friend Connor. It was here that Brandon’s life is forever changed when he sees his best friend killed in action right next to him. Seeing Connor’s lifeless body starring at him will forever scar him. Not only that but he can’t stay there and as he starts to walk away from the scene he just keeps walking. Brandon is now AWOL. He has created a new life and identity for himself. Fighting fills his new life along with drinking and women…lots of women. Trying to bury the images of what he did in the war as well as the death of his best friend. He drinks to forget and fights to numb the pain and is forever trying to bury it all. Poppy, now a widow and missing Brandon, who was the other constant in her life. Using almost all of her insurance money when she hires a PI, she finally finds Brandon in London. Shocked at what how she finds him in London it leaves her heartbroken to see Brandon in such a broken state. Appalled seeing him bloody and battered in the ring of an illegal fight. Pushing Poppy to leave as he wasn’t worthy of her, Poppy pushed back even more determined to not let him do so. Brandon had always been the first one she loved. Not knowing that Brandon had always felt the same way. It was Brandon’s loyalty to Connor that had kept them apart. Now add to the fact that Brandon feels that he is not worthy of Poppy’s love. Plus, he also feels guilt for being alive, instead of Connor as well as the demons for the things he had done while in battle. The connection is still there between Brandon and Poppy. Their chemistry as hot as it ever was. They loved fiercely and passionately but would this be enough? Once the walls begin to shatter and the peace that Brandon finds with Poppy will they able to find their happiness? The demons of PTSD are frequently hard to overcome. The nightmares, the anger, the feelings of worthlessness as well as the use of drugs and alcohol can become a ginormous hurdle to cross. At the end of the cycle there are numerous suicides as a result of seeing no other way out to end the cycle.

Because sometimes characters need to be flawed.P.S. Stevie’s greatest fear is the impending zombie apocalypse. Think about it: swarming armies of decaying, oozing corpses stumbling around with clicking teeth, trying to eat your face. Nothing about that is good. NOTHING!
Lauren Lovell is an indie author from England. She suffers from a total lack of brain to mouth filter and is the friend you have to explain before you introduce her to anyone, and apologise for afterwards.
She’s a self-confessed shameless pervert, who may be suffering from slight peen envy.LP loves to hear from readers so please get in touch.
