ALL ABOUT THE “D” – Q & A with Leslie McAdam & Lex Martin

Temptation has never come in a hotter package. You know how people say you can never believe what you read on the interwebs?

That a hot guy online is probably a creeper with a beer gut and a shoe fetish, not the sexy beast he pretends to be?

So I had no clue that the anonymous blogger who contacted my law firm about his naughty website would be droolworthy in real life. Not that I’m interested in him in that way. Attorneys can’t go around sleeping with their clients. Not even if he is the most beautiful man I’ve ever met and so ridiculously smart he makes my nerdy-girl heart sigh.

Besides, he has too much on the line to risk taking a chance on the insane chemistry building between us. We both do.

I’ve always followed the rules. Too bad he makes me want to break each and every one of them.

*** All About the D is a romantic comedy and a full-length standalone. Due to adult situations and sexual content, it’s recommended for readers over the age of 18.

????????????????

You know how sometimes there is a book that is just so sweet and sexy you just can’t put it down?   That is exactly how AATD was for me.  There were so many times reading this book that my heart felt like it was going to explode with happiness because everything was so perfect!  And omgosh I have to tell you guys that I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time.  I Loved Josh and Evie…not to mention they were made for each other.   Like any romance there will be some ups and downs but you know what? I bet you will fall in love with this book just like me!

I recently had the good fortune of catching up with Lex and Leslie for a quick talk! Enjoy!!

1.       How did you come up with the storyline for AATD?  Was this the result of a night of drinking?

LESLIE: We’re friends with the guy who runs the “things my dick does” tumblr site. I may have mentioned to Lex that since I know his real name, I’ve received some funny things for him, and she said it would be a great basis for a story.

2.       When did you two know that you wanted to collaborate on this book?

LESLIE: I kinda fangirl hard about Lex. I think her writing is stellar. So I felt a bit like being asked to the ball.

LEX: We bonded over our mutual appreciation for hot guys on Instagram. Seriously, though, Leslie is funny and sweet, and I was always laughing my ass off when we chatted. I also really loved how she interacted with readers in her Facebook group. So when we came up with the story idea for AATD, we were really just shooting the shit, laughing about different scenarios, and having fun. So I thought, this chick is awesome. I love talking to her. Let’s do this! Plus, Leslie is really chill, and I’m not, so we balance each other well.

3.       Can we expect more books co-authored from the two of you!  P.S.  I sure hope so!!

LESLIE: Yes ma’am. We had so much fun.

LEX: Does a monkey scratch its ass?! <- yes.

4.      Going in did you know the direction that you wanted AATD?  Or did the story take a life of its own?

LESLIE: We had to create everything. The world. The characters. So we knew a few things we wanted to happen, but it did take on a life of its own.

LEX: We outlined a lot, but certain characters really blossomed while we wrote, like Drew and Evie’s dad. I have to say I fell pretty hard for those two!

5.      You had me at the “NSFW” part?  Innuendo aside, this literally left readers to conjure up a visual to go with it the book.

LESLIE: The funny part is that NSFW stands for both “not suitable for work” and “not SAFE for work.” These were the kinds of discussions we had. lol.

 6.  I have to admit one of my favorite places in the book was the “clone a dick” part!!   Was it difficult, uhm…researching this?

LESLIE: No, it was totally HARD.

LEX: We actually wrote it before doing too much research. We read the directions and some of the reviews for a similar product and went from there. After it was written, I watched a YouTube video of one guy online who reviews sex toys and realized we totally nailed the scenario.

7. While Josh had a “dick blog” I love that Evie turned out to be a little vixen.  Was that intentional?

LEX: I think it was important to show how Josh could bring Evie out of her shell. Her evolution wasn’t so much on the exterior, like her clothes or her appearance. Her evolution came from having more sexual freedom and being able to freely enjoy her body and Josh’s between the sheets. And he needed someone who could rock his world, both in bed and out. But honestly, I think Evie surprised herself in some of those scenes by how uninhibited she got. Josh did that for her, helped her feel safe and desired.

8.  What was the most difficult part of writing AATD?

LESLIE: Continuity was the hardest for me. I’d put Evie in a ponytail and a skirt, and then I’d read Lex’s chapter and realize that she needed to have her hair down and wear pants.

LEX: Editing. I get a little psycho when I’m editing because I start to obsess about, well, everything. I’m sure you’ve heard the adage measure twice, cut once. For me, editing means measuring everything a thousand times and making sure the pieces fit perfectly. But Leslie eventually got used to my crazy, I think. Haha.

9.  What was your favorite part of this process?  Leslie?  Lex?

LESLIE: Giggling with Lex over our texts. And seeing the book take shape and knowing that we were creating something a little different, but that we were both proud of it.

LEX: Our crazy messages back and forth and reading what she wrote the night before—those were my favorite aspects of this collaboration. I’ve never had as much drafting a book before.

10. All About the Dick had it all!  Laugh out loud until you cry, a whole lot of sexy, angsty, and most definitely a ton of heart.  While, in my humble opinion, this book was perfect!  If you could change anything, would you?  Why not?

LESLIE: There was a cat on the counter in one of the shops where Josh and Evie go. The cat got cut. I wrote in the margin, RIP Cat. Poor cat. Next book is going to have tons of cats. Maybe.

LEX: (You and that damn cat. Haha.) I wouldn’t change a thing. We worked our asses off to write this book, and I’m pretty pleased with it. It’s sexy with substance, if I do say so myself.

You ladies are the best!!  Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me.  All About the D was a phenomenal read!!

LESLIE: THANK YOU, Mary! You’re the best!

LEX: Spanks! xoxo
