 MARY’s 5 STAR REVIEW

Daughters of the Bride had a lot to do with the family dynamics of 3 sisters and their mom.   It dealt with loss, how a family dealt with tragedy and the effect of the tragedy on the family.  It had to do with letting go and rebuilding their lives as well as discovering who you were and what made you happy.

After being widowed for 24 years Maggie Watson is in love again.  She’s planning her wedding and wants her daughters to be part of it.  She is having the wedding at the Hotel owned by Joyce.

A little history.

The Watson family, Maggie, Mom, and her three daughters Rebecca, Sienna and Courtney.  Maggie husband died leaving her a window with three young daughters.  The loss was devastating but more than that left her broke and eventually homeless.  After being taken in by Joyce and live at her Hotel. Determined to never be in this position Maggie went back to school to get a degree.

Rachel, being the oldest daughter, was asked by a grieving mother to help her with her younger sisters. It was a job that no 9-year-old should ever have to undertake.  But she stepped up and did the best she could to help with her younger siblings.

About the daughters.

Rachel had married her high school sweetheart, Greg.  They had been divorced 2 years. She worked as a hairdresser.   Also, she had custody of an eleven-year-old son.  She hadn’t really been able to move on with her life but was she ready to….  Or is there still room for Greg in her life?

Sienna, was the middle daughter.  She was gorgeous and things came easy for her.  She was pretty easy going and worked for a non-profit that helped battered women. A job she was totally committed to and loved. Twice engaged and twice broken she was now looking at engagement number three.  Was this engagement what she wanted or not?

Courtney, was the youngest. She was also my favorite.  She was a free spirit but she was also wise from life. Growing up she was often neglected by her mom.  As hard a Rachel tried to help her she wasn’t always able to.  Courtney was a tall, awkward and teased by kids at school because she was slow learning things.  It wasn’t until she was diagnosed with a learning disability that she could move forward.  And even then as she caught up with her classmates her mother never noticed.  When Courtney turned 18 she quit school and moved away from home and was currently living at the hotel with Joyce.

While preparations are being made for Maggie’s wedding Joyce has turned the reigns over to Courtney.  Here’s the deal, Joyce and Courtney are good friends as well as work together.  Courtney works as a maid at the hotel or at least that is what her family thinks, in reality she can do anything they need her to do, even event planning.   Joyce shares a secret with Courtney.  A secret that she is hiding from her family.  Something that will prove that she is not who or what her family thinks she is.  A secret she feels will prove her self-worth.

Awww, and then there is Quinn!  He is Joyce’s grandson.  A big time LA music producer and holy hell he’s hot as sin.  He’s intrigued by both her innocence, candor and natural beauty and damn if they don’t hit it off.  Quinn challenged Courtney and it was refreshing to see her confidence grow with him.  I truly loved these two characters together.  What would become of Quinn and Courtney?

Daughters of the Bride was a great read.  At times I felt like it jumped around a bit but overall I enjoyed the book. I would love, love, love to see more with Quinn and Courtney.
